Caitlyn Jenner broke Barack Obama’s Twitter record

Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, became a huge celebrity overnight after her debut as a woman on the cover of Vanity Fair.

What does any new celebrity do? Well, they join the host of social media platforms available, and this is where Caitlyn really had the fingers clicking.

In just four hours, Jenner managed to attract over a million followers on Twitter, breaking US President Barack Obama’s previous record.

Obama joined Twitter two weeks ago, and set the record for the fastest-growing Twitter account with a million followers in five hours.

Tweeting under the handle @Caitlyn_Jenner, she has tweeted only three times, and at the time of this writing she had 1.8 million followers.

“I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me,” reads her account description.

Jenner also joined Facebook, where she currently does have as many followers as she does on Twitter, but none the less, it is still almost at 500 000, while her Instagram account proved to be almost as popular as her Twitter, with 850 000 followers.

She still has a ways to go to top the Twitter following of her stepdaughter, Kim Karsashian, though. Kim’s followers currently number 32.2 million. That’s about 2.2 million more people than the population of Australia. Have a think about that…
