Residents and visitors in South Africa’s largest township are enjoying access to free WiFi thanks to a company we’ve dubbed the “Project Isizwe” of Soweto.
Brightwave has set up 400 hotspot in Soweto over the last two years, covering almost every section of the township.
You’ll find a hotspot in places like the famous Vilakazi Street, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and other little spots like tuckshops, schools, salons, restaurants and more.
Brightwave has an unlimited data cap and can be accessed either via its app or by turning on your WiFi and looking for the network when you’re at a hotspot.
Check out the map below and find a hotspot nearest to you. And if you happen to be in other places around Joburg, you can make use of any of the 137 hotspots set up around the metro by the municipality.
