GameCube chopped into a Nintendo Switch dock with working ports

While modders and third parties are creating new Nintendo Switch docks all the time, their focuses are usually on reducing size or cost.

Doing neither of those things today is YouTube channel Rated-e Mods which has turned the venerable GameCube into a dock for the newer Switch, complete with ports for plugging in the older controllers.

This was done by chopping up a dead GameCube to accommodate the first party Switch dock’s electronics as well as the GameCube controller adaptor. That’s a bit of simplification as a lot of work was done to line up ports and add functionality like the original orange LED.

The obvious problem with this project is the need for a GameCube shell to put everything into. While it’s a nice reuse of spare parts if you happened to have that lying around, it’s not ideal.

Because the project already calls for 3D printed parts, it makes a lot more sense to use to simply print out a full scale GameCube shell and use that instead. If we try this ourselves, we’d probably modify some existing files so that the first party dock and adaptor can simply slide in without any modification.

The full video embedded below is just under 20 minutes long, but it does feature a lot of details and information should you want to pull this off yourself. If you want the shortened version there are timestamps in the description to hop around, and a two-minute version on Facebook.
