What are the best Desktop and/or Creative Software packages for an SMME according to our readers?

SMMEs are no strangers to creative desktop software. From presentations to collaboration on work projects, a creative desktop suite is necessary to simply get work done. What then is the best product for a SMME in the business world?

Microsoft Office takes the number one spot with 49.2% of the SMME vote. While this might sound strange, the program’s suite of applications such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel are necessities for any SMME. Microsoft Publisher, while quite basic in its functionality, caters to SMMEs that lack the funds to pay design professionals to create eye-catching designs and page layouts for their businesses.

Microsoft Office runs on almost any desktop and while freeware alternatives are available, the support and trust that Microsoft Office has gathered over the years has made it an industry staple.

Microsoft 365, which came second with 28.8% is Microsoft’s cloud-based Office solution. It features all the applications present in the single use activation package of Microsoft Office but with the added benefit of support and updates for as long as you as subscribed to the 365 package.

This is great for SMMEs that require the latest features of Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Word for their desktops. Microsoft Outlook and OneDrive is also integrated into the product packages, bringing email and data storage to the cloud. Microsoft 365 runs on PC, iPad, iPhone and Android and since it’s cloud based, data is shared across all devices via a user’s account/ This is perfect for SMME collaboration on projects on the go.

Offering a more traditionally creative software suite, Adobe secured 16.9% of the SMME vote. Adobe offers a range of products that SMMEs can take advantage of. Adobe Creative Cloud features the tools that many SMMEs need on a daily basis. For a little less than $30 a month, businesses can gain access to over 20 Adobe apps that help make the magic happen. Photography based SMMEs are spoiled since they can opt in for a cheaper option that caters specifically to them.

Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator and Premiere Pro have earned themselves places as industry standards in the creative industry and with good reason. The product suite is constantly updated and improved and Adobe’s cloud based storage ensures that everything is accessible from anywhere in the world.
