Africa’s first LEGO Certified Store opens in Sandton this July

Getting your hands on official LEGO pieces and kits can be a bit tricky and expensive here in Africa which is why were delighted to learn that a LEGO certified store will be opening in South Africa soon.

The Great Yellow Brick Co will open in Sandton City on 28th July and it’s 179 square metre shop floor will the first in Africa to be certified by LEGO. This was made possible by a multi-million-rand investment and exclusive deal with The LEGO Group.

“South Africans have had decades-long love for Lego sets and products, from children who learn the basics of construction, fine-motor skills or the sheer possibilities of the imagination, to adults who will go to extraordinary lengths to complete their themed collections,” said country manager for The Lego Group South Africa, Kristian Imhof, in a press statement.

While a physical store with the backing of LEGO is great, Bizcommunity reports that The Great Yellow Brick Co will also be taking the shopping experience online.

That seems like great news for folks that want to build models from scratch like this Sawtooth from Horizon Zero Dawn for instance but would usually have to import parts.

“We are excited that this dedicated store will give fans old and new the opportunity to continue building their Lego world,” said Imhof.

If you want to get updates about the launch we highly recommend heading over to The Great Yellow Brick Co’s website and signing up for notifications.
