Grab the milk: Chex Quest HD gets a trailer

Of all the games based on Doom to come out, only one of them was brave enough to sell cereal to kids. 1996’s Chex Quest was a promotional game designed to promote the titular breakfast food, and its HD remake finally has a trailer.

We’ve been hearing whispers about this game for years now but this is the first time we’ve seen it in action. Chex Quest HD seems to be the work of Chuck Jacobi: artist on the original Chex Quest who also uploaded the trailer you can watch below.

This new game will be a remake and also feature five levels, all of which will be available for free just like the original. You don’t even need to buy a box of cereal to get it.

At the moment there’s no official release date, but it’s suggested that you follow its official Facebook page for updates. There you can find some interesting stuff, such as comparisons between the two games and the rad header image used for this story (yes, rad is a perfectly fine adjective to use when talking about anything from the 90’s).

The trailer itself a bit on the janky side, especially when it comes to sound mixing, but we think that only adds to the charm. The gameplay portion near the end is probably what most people are interested in. We would suggest skipping to it, but the cutscene which makes up the majority of the run time is honestly more interesting.

One final important point to take from this trailer is in the text box below it. Despite this being a passion project, it’s being done with the blessing of the trademark owners. “CHEX, the Chex Logo and all related materials are the property of General Mills, used with permission,” the end of the description reads. If that is true, it’s nice to see a big company letting people play around with its properties like this, especially when it obviously comes from a good place.
