Devolver Digital’s Observation is the latest Epic Store casualty

Observation is an upcoming thriller set on a space station and publisher by Devolver Digital. It was originally slated for release on the PC and PlayStation 4 later this year and, while this is still the case, it will only make its way to PC through the Epic Store.

Yesterday there were reports that the Steam listing for the game had vanished following the game being showed during the State Of Play stream where its May 21st release date was announced.

Now we know why this is thanks to the latest trailer for the game uploaded by Devolver Digital, and it’s right there in the title: “PS4 & Epic Games Store”.

Observation follows in the footsteps of title such as Metro: Exodus which set up a Steam page and enjoyed the benefits of doing so, but have now ditched the platform, presumably for a better deal offered by Epic.

At the time of writing we can’t find any word from Devolver about this development outside of the trailer and its very short description which prompts you to check the game out on the PS4 and Epic Store where it is being advertised for a discounted $19.79 on the latter platform.

While we know that these exclusivity deals are a sad reality at this point, Devolver Digital is the last publisher we expected to do this given the fact that they’ve been very consumer friendly in the past and seemed to be in tune with the community it operates in. While we’re not privy to the events that lead to this situation, we’re sure lots and lots of money was involved.

While the trailer is a complete afterthought given the bad news it’s carrying, it’s interesting and we’re still curious about this game’s vague plot. See the original reveal of the game to learn a bit more.
