The South African government is doing its best to adapt to the new age of technology.

This includes initiatives such as translating textbooks for tablets, and having smart boards instead of black boards. It is estimated that pupils who are starting primary school this year will ultimately work in new jobs that don’t yet exist.

The question then is how do we give these students the necessary skills to cope in a world where the jobs they will need to competent in, are yet to be created.

This is where expos like the My Future 4.0 Summit can do its part. For those unfamiliar with the Summit, it’s the first next level digital skills and career-focused event of its kind in the country, according to organisers, with it taking place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg from 15th to 18th May.

The theme for this year’s summit will be “The Future of Jobs – Employment, Skills and Workforce Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” The aim of the event is to prepare students, parents, post-graduate students and those already employed by immersing them in a highly interactive environment, giving them a better understanding of the aforementioned jobs that are yet to be created..

The Summit will focus on digital skills needed to thrive in the careers of the future, and focus on career options. To that end subjects like the future of coding, gaming, virtual reality, 3D printing, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics and digital design as well as medicine, mining, the arts and music.

The My Future 4.0 Summit will have two sessions per day, with the fist session starting at 08:30 in the morning and the second session in the afternoon at 13:30. Tickets will be sold at R195 per person over the age of 12.
