Spoilt for choice or event overkill? Either way the next high-profile gaming-focused event is upon us within a few days of the dust settling at Comic Con Africa.

That event of course is Vodacom rAge 2019, and if you’ve been following developments for this fixture on the South African scene lately, you’ll know that Vodacom has joined the action as a key sponsor.

Not to be outdone by its Comic Con rivals, Vodacom has detailed all the activities, activations and prizes it has planned for the three-day long event, taking place from 27th to 29th September.

“The Vodacom stand will be anything but corporate or boring, with great deals, amazing prizes and a host of exclusive gaming opportunities that will entice casual and competitive gamers alike,” a press release sent to Hypertext enthusiastically explains.

Seeing as Vodacom is a local carrier, many of the events and deals for rAge 2019 are mobile-focused.

To that end there will be a dedicated PUBG area of the event where visitors can take part in a free-to-play, elimination-race competition of PUBG Mobile in solo mode and stand to win a Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Participants can also win limited edition PUBG Mobile t-shirts, as well as a chance to meet international esports host and personality, Paul “Redeye” Chaloner.

There’s also going to be a Vodacom 4U area at rAge 2019. Here FIFA 20 is a big focus, which recently launched, with it also being free-to-play. If you find yourself at the Vodacom stand on the 28th between 11:00 and 13:00, there’ll be players from Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Ekasi Esports, Goliath Gaming and Big5 Esports showcasing their gaming skills.

Along with FIFA 20, Vodacom will have a series of 1v1 comps on PC to get stuck into, including The Pure Aim competition, Fortnite 1v1 build battles and Overwatch 1v1 duels.

As for deals, the network will have a number of exclusive 4U deals running over the weekend for rAge 2019, such as:

  • Pay R99 pm on top of an 80gig data contract offer and get a PS4 console with three games, a three-month PlayStation Plus membership voucher and a router.
  • Pay R99 pm on top of any Vodacom fibre deal and get a PS4 console with three games, a three-month PlayStation Plus membership voucher and a router.
  • Newly launched Fortnite figurines – exclusive to Vodacom 4U.
  • Cougar gaming chairs – exclusive to Vodacom 4U.
  • Funko Pop show special for only R99.

The sponsor conforms that it has a few more surprises in store for rAge 2019, so if you haven’t burned through your budget after Comic Con Africa, it may be worthwhile to head to the Ticketpro Dome this weekend.
