LEGO shoves a collection of iconic Harry Potter items into a box

Most LEGO sets have buyers building one specific item as a main build with maybe one or two smaller side items thrown in, but the latest set revealed for Harry Potter is a smorgasbord of items from the franchise.

Set 76391: Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition has more than a dozen builds of various items that aren’t even built or joined together in any way – they’re all kind of just lying around after you build them individually, which is also an oddity for LEGO.

“Sitting proudly at the centre of the set is Harry’s loyal owl, Hedwig, clutching the infamous Hogwarts letter. Fans will also find Harry’s wand and glasses, a chocolate frog, a potions tray including five potion bottles and ingredients, as well as Tom Riddle’s diary, the Golden Snitch and a school scarf which is customisable to match any Hogwarts House,” reads a press release from LEGO.

Despite what the press release points out there are several other items such as the stack of books Hedwig is standing on as well as golden minidigures of Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid.

These minifigures are gold as part of the LEGO Harry Potter anniversary celebrating 20 years of toys being made based on the series. Several other characters are also offered in this gold variant spread across multiple different sets.

The main build of Hedwig on the books measures in at 44 X 50 X 33 centimetres (height X width X depth) with 3 010 pieces included in the box to build everything you can see in the gallery below.

When the set launches on 2nd September it will cost €249.99 / $249.99 / £229.99 depending on region. While we’d usually take a guess at localised pricing there’s no need this time around as it has been revealed that the price in South Africa will be R4 999.99.

The UK pricing is usually closest to what South Africans pay as it includes tax (unlike the US price). Right now £229.99 converts over to R4 637 at the time of writing. Around R300 to account for import costs for such a large set is about what you’d expect here.

This set is a masterclass when it comes to the builds for each of its small elements but we wish they were all sold as smaller, cheaper sets instead of this one scatter-brained box. People then could have picked and bought just their favourite elements instead of needing to buy everything.

It’s also odd that the large build of Hedwig is the centrepiece here that takes up most of the pieces. Last year the owl was available as a smaller set with a gear mechanism that made the wings flap.
