Marvel dominates Twitter after Spider-Man trailer

If anyone had any doubt that Spider-Man is the most popular superhero in the world, the release of the first official trailer for No Way Home may sway them.

Every platform that hosts the trailer has racked up millions of views a pop despite it only having been uploaded a few hours ago, but views aren’t what we want to talk about.

Instead it’s the trending page on Twitter. This page displays 20 hashtags or key words that are the most discussed on the platform at any given time that a user visits.

When we visited that page last a full half of the top topics – 10 out of the 20 – were related to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Below are those 10 topics and the number of tweets mentioning each. These numbers were correct at the time of writing but, if you refresh the aforementioned trending page, each one will rack up a few more thousand tweets each.

While we stand by the assertion that Spider-Man is the biggest name in comics No Way Home has a lot of nostalgia fuelling it. As revealed in the trailer multiple characters from the Rami trilogy of Spider-Man films will be returning in this movie.

We have more information about the trailer available here but the gist here is that No Way Home is shaping up to be an ensemble movie as well as trip down memory lane of movie legacy of this character.

This trailer was also given an extra shot of internet discussion because it leaked before the official reveal. If you’ve got your tinfoil hat on it’s not outlandish to think that the leak was intentional as a way to generate hype. If it was then it clearly worked.

As for what people are discussing in those hashtags and key words there’s a wide gamut as you’d expect from the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of voices. Aside from the expect memes and trailer breakdowns many discussions are around nostalgia for the old movies and how this dimensional hopping will affect the MCU as a whole.

Alternate dimensions and timelines were major plot points of WandaVision and Loki, which is why these two also popup in the list above.
