Android apps are rolling out to Windows 11 Beta Insiders

Despite Windows 11 launching earlier this month, the operating system doesn’t have some of the features Microsoft announced earlier this year.

One of those features is support for Android applications. Microsoft has said that the feature will be available at a later stage but Windows Insiders can start testing them right now.

Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel are starting to receive an update which allows the installation of Android apps. The ability to install Android apps is powered by Amazon and Intel and you will be able to run Android apps on PCs with Intel, AMD or Qualcomm tech.

Rather than having a separate Android app storefront, Microsoft has lumped Android apps into its store albeit under the collective banner of Amazon Appstore Preview.

“Running Android apps and games on Windows 11 will feel familiar, effortless, and integrated – just as you would expect. You can easily run these apps side-by-side with the help of the new Snap Layouts feature, pin them to your Start menu or Taskbar, and interact with them via mouse, touch, or pen input,” explains Microsoft.

“Android apps are also integrated into Alt + Tab and Task view to help you quickly move back-and-forth between the apps that matter most to you. You can see notifications from Android apps notifications in the Action Center or share your clipboard between a Windows app and an Android app. We have built the experience with accessibility in mind; many Windows accessibility settings apply to Android apps and we are working with Amazon to deliver more improvements,” the firm added.

While we don’t have access to this update as yet, The Verge does and it has written up a great preview touching on how well Android apps run on Windows.

If you’re part of the Windows Insider Beta Channel be sure to check for an update.
