As we have done throughout this week, and most of lockdown, we are eagerly inspecting the latest numbers regarding the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
This as we hope to see whether the virus is indeed under control following a chaotic third wave and the effects of the delta variant of COVID-19.
Looking at the latest figures from the National Department of Health (NDoH), the past 24 hours has seen 942 new cases recorded as the total number of infections reported to date has climbed to 2 913 880.
While the new daily figure is higher than what we have seen earlier in the week, it is still far less than previous weeks.
Shifting to the other key statistics in the report, the NDoH says 37 new fatalities have also been recorded over the past 24 hours as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa reaches 88 466.
The department also notes that the recovery rate has increased to 96.2 percent with 2 802 615 recoveries reported and over 18.05 million tests conducted so far.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 196 696 jabs administered as more needs to do be done to get people to head to vaccine sites. As of 17:00 on 13th October, a total of 19 668 177 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 10 370 746 people fully vaccinated.
