Now that the results of the local government elections have been shared, it is time to turn our attention once again to COVID-19 in South Africa. This especially as the next few weeks will be crucial in terms of the spread of the virus and predicted fourth wave beginning in late November.
For now though, the numbers from the National Department of Health (NDoH) remain low, with the latest report confirming that 319 new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours. This sees the total number of infections recorded to date climb to 2 923 064.
The department also notes 31 fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours, as the death toll related to the spread of the virus increases to 89 251.
As for the other key statistics in the report, the NDoH shows no change in the recovery rate once agin, as it sits at 96.3 percent with 2 815 840 recoveries reported to date. Added to this is over 18.63 million tests being conducted in the country so far.
Shifting to the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hour has seen 152 049 jabs administered, while a total of 22 965 123 vaccines have been administered as of 17:00 on 4th November and an estimated 12 737 700 people fully vaccinated at this stage.
