Despite awful reviews Battlefield 2042 is the best selling game on Steam

Over the weekend Battlefield 2042 became one of the worst reviewed games on Steam, but this has not slowed down its sales at all as the game comes in at first, second and third in the top ten selling list.

This is according to Steam Database (SteamDB), a third party tracking site for Steam that provides a recap of the best performing games from the last week ordered by revenue generated.

Because Steam lists games with multiple versions as separate titles, Battlefield 2042, Forza Horizon 5 and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story all appear more than once on the list:

  • Battlefield 2042
  • Battlefield 2042
  • Battlefield 2042
  • Forza Horizon 5
  • Forza Horizon 5
  • Ruined King: A League of Legends Story
  • Ruined King: A League of Legends Story
  • Age of Empires IV
  • Halo Infinite (Campaign)
  • Farming Simulator 22

This sales performance is rather impressive when you consider the mountain of bad reviews for the game on Steam alone. At the time of writing there are 35 190 review for the game and only 26 percent of them are positive.

This leaves Battlefield 2042 with a review rating of “Mostly Negative” on Steam. According to Steam250, another tracking site for Steam, this places Battlefield 2042 as the eighth worst reviewed game on the platform.

This is the greatest disparity between public reception and sales that we’ve seen for a while but it shows once again that complaining about a game won’t help much if you’ve already ignored reviews and bought it anyway.

As for the rest of the list the fantastic – but technically broken – Forza Horizon 5 is the first non-Battlefield game on the list. It’s joined by other Microsoft titles that are also available on Game Pass in the form of Age of Empires IV and Halo Infinite.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story and Farming Simulator 22 round off the list with both fairly expected to see strong sales based off of brand loyalty for their existing IPs.

With Battlefield 2042 also the Steam top seller last week we have to wonder how long this strong sales performance will last.
