Bobby Kotick hasn’t been fired but QA testers for Call of Duty have been

Activision Blizzard chief executive officer Bobby Kotick maintains his position at the top of the firm, but quality assurance contractors are being laid off as part of a studio restructuring.

Contractors at Raven Software, an Activision Blizzard-owned studio that produced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are being called into meetings over the next week. According to The Washington Post, a third of QA contractors are being laid off.

What will likely have you fuming. however, is a thread from Raven Software’s community manager Austin O’Brien who offered a brief peak behind the veil.

The community manager alleges that QA contractors were told that Activision Blizzard was working toward a pay restructure for the contractors over the last few months. Making matters worse, many contractors were asked to relocate only to be forced to find a new job before 28th January 2021.

“If it isn’t clear, this is bullshit,” said O’Brien. “It’s unfair to these people to string them along, promising something better, and then let them go. I am infuriated right now.”

The community manager spoke to Kotaku and said that the vast majority of QA contractors would be let go and precious few would be kept on as permanent testers.

It’s important to note that Activision Blizzard earned $2 billion in revenue over three months it reported in November.

“We are excited about this week’s Call of Duty launch and expect continued success in the fourth quarter. I want to thank our employees for their continued commitment to each other, the company, and our players. We look forward to sharing progress updates on our workplace initiatives, alongside our business performance,” said Kotick.

A word of thanks and a firm handshake seems to be the most those committed employees get, along with the memory of being promised better pay, bonuses and benefits.

Activision Blizzard needs to do better, and it can start by giving Kotick his marching orders.
