MTN Summer School to run until 14th January 2022

As the academic year at every level comes to a close, students who still want to get some revision done, or prepare for a new grade, can make use of the new MTN Summer School, which is now running until 14th January 2022.

The Summer School is looking to cover a large swathe of South African education with grades all the way up to 11 supported with content aligned with the DBE.

“The Summer School provides a further avenue for learners to access quality curriculum-aligned educational content, as endorsed and provided by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). It forms part of the MTN Online School that was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) in October 2021. Summer School includes easy-to-use revision lessons and assessments as well as online tutoring,” reads a press release sent to us.

The need for this extra schooling is, of course, made even more crucial due to the pandemic and its continued negative affect on education. The fact that this content is free is another massive boon as extra fees from education at home, such as for devices and internet connectivity, have made the burden of education even heavier for parents. The MTN Online School is free and Summer School is an additional free initiative inside of it.

“The Department of Basic Education (DBE TV) channel 122 on Openview will support the engagements happening on the platform, while reminders, revisions and a dedicated schedule with times will be available through social media channels and on the Tswelopele, DBE and NECT websites. Moreover, catchup in cases where learners miss any lessons will be made available via the 2Enable YouTube Channel,” the release continues.

We had a quick look at the 2Enable channel, which is available here, and there’s a lot of content there already. There’s been more than 20 videos uploaded in the last day that covers physical sciences, math and more. The most recent videos are for grade 10 with some uploaded a few days ago for grade 11. If you keep scrolling through the uploads you will eventually find the grade and subject you’re looking for, or you can use the search bar.

Many people miss the fact that, while you can use the main search bar on YouTube to look through the entire site, you can also search through a specific channel too. On desktop this option is located just to the right of the “about” tab on a channel page.

Aside from the aforementioned avenue the main MTN Online School portal can be found here. Those using it for the first time simply need to register with students requiring the use of a guardian’s phone number.
