Bursaries to apply for before the end of January 2022

The new year brings with it opportunities to apply for assistance and financing for study in the form of bursaries. These are often offered year round, but some are time sensitive, especially at the beginning of the year.

With that in mind, we have highlighted a handful of bursaries that may appeal to your field of study, all of which with an application closing date of 31st January.

We have listed the bursary itself, eligibility requirements and links to downloadable documents where available below.

SAAFoST

The South African Association of Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) is offering three types of bursary, all of which close on 31st January 2022 – Matriculant, Undergraduate and Part-Time for SAAFoST members.

The matriculant bursary is for those currently in Matric and who intend to study towards an undergraduate qualification or diploma in the Food Sciences field. It offers cover for tuition up to R35 000 per year until graduation.

The undergraduate bursary is for students currently enrolled in their first postgraduate qualification or diploma in food science, and also offers up to R35 000 in tuition per year until completion of the qualification.

Lastly, the part-time bursary is for those who are currently SAAFoST members and in the process of completing a postgraduate qualification in food science. Once again, up to R35 000 per year for tuition is on offer.

Prince Albert Municipality

As the name would suggest, the Prince Albert Municipality bursary is focused on assisting learners in the Western Cape region and its immediately surrounding municipalities.

To that end, it is offering support for one year of academic study, although how many bursaries are available in total, has not been disclosed.

What has been outlined though, are the fields of study, which range from accounting, civil engineering, electric engineering, law, public administration, supply chain management and town planning.

SA WISE

Next is the South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) bursary, which is focused primarily on female postgraduate learners studying towards a qualification in a science or engineering field.

It is also open to female learners across the Sub-Saharan Africa region, with up to R15 000 per annum being issued and successful applicants becoming a SA WISE member.

A Google Form for the application before 31st January can be found and completed here, with supporting documentation needing to be sent to sawise[dot]scholarships[at]gmail[dot]com.

It is also important to note, that applicants need to have acceptance to study at the University of Cape Town for this particular bursary.

Academy of the Digital Arts

The Cape Town-based Academy for the Digital Arts is offering up two types of bursary for the 2022 academic year.

The first is a higher certificate in graphic design, which covers one year of full-time study at a maximum cost of R76 800. The second is a game design bursary, which also covers one year of full-time study at R76 800.

Please note that this bursary is BBEEE awarded and will be given to candidates based on academic performance and talent.

Astron Energy

Astron Energy is offering an extensive bursary for the 2022 academic year, which is being facilitated by Career Wise.

The precise number of bursaries has not been disclosed, but the range of fields for study is vast, including analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, data analytics, graphic design, industrial psychology, linguistics, media studies, property studies and many, many more.

The bursary will cover tuition, a meal allowance, accommodation, books and registration fees.

Applications can be made online before 31st January 2022 on the Career Wise portal here.

SACAP

Our last bursary comes from the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP). It is specifically focused on those studying for the 2022 academic year and is offering a higher certificate in counselling and communication skills.

It is a full-time one year bursary covering costs of up to R60 000, with it importantly being offered as a remote studying course, which makes it possible for anyone across the to potentially study.
