Disney has announced that Disney+ will be launching in South Africa, and many other countries, later this year, but this still means many months of waiting for local fans.
In August 2021 we reported on the fact that Disney had earmarked Winter 2022 for the release of the streaming service in this country, and that has been re-confirmed today with a press release announcing Disney+ for 42 new countries.
The full list of 42 countries can be found at the bottom of this story, but while this is good news for us and many other places around the world, no definitive date has been provided for this launch.
South African Winter takes place between late June and late September so it’s a rather large window for things to happen. We’ll put aside our disdain for using the seasons to mark product releases for now.
As before visiting the official Disney+ home page when visiting from South Africa will result in the header image above with a button labelled “keep me updated”. From here visitors can leave their email address to receive updates about the service.
Unfortunately you do need to agree to “receive special offers and updates about Disney+ and other products and services from The Walt Disney Family of Companies by email” so we doubt all you’ll be getting a singular email saying Disney+ is available.
There’s a huge slate of new content coming around the time the South Africa launch is planned, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the launch of these shows is made to coincide with this expansion into the 24 new countries.
