Previously a PlayStation exclusive, God of War is the top selling game on Steam

God of War, once a flagship IP of PlayStation and a mascot for the console, has made its way to PC and it has proven a massive success for publisher Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio.

This is, at least, according to third party tracking site Steam Database (SteamDB) which provides a list of the top selling games on Valve’s storefront ordered by revenue generated in a week:

  1. God of War
  2. Monster Hunter Rise
  3. Monster Hunter Rise
  4. Ready or Not
  5. Elden Ring
  6. Valve Index VR Kit Package
  7. Project Zomboid
  8. Dying Light 2 Stay Human
  9. It Takes Two
  10. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.

The PC port of God of War (2018) sits right at the top beating out the likes of Monster Hunter Rise and Elden Ring.

This isn’t too surprising, however. At the time of writing the Steam page for God of War has 8 890 user reviews with 97 percent of them being positive. This leaves the game with the highest review rating on Steam: “Overwhelmingly Positive”.

This positive reception is mirror by critic reviews and superb port work that has the game running incredibly smoothly.

With such an early success we hope God of War continues the tradition of PlayStation exclusives being ported to PC with the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone already making the transition.

The rest of the list above is rather expected with games we’ve seen on there before. Only Monster Hunter Rise appears twice, something that happens in these lists as multiple versions of a single game are listed as separate titles.

Ready or Not, a new Early Access title aiming to ape the SWAT series of games, was the top seller last week and has been bumped down all the way to fourth place by God of War. Its continued success going up against much bigger games is really impressive here.
