As we begin another week with COVID-19 in South Africa, it looks like the National Department of Health (NDoH) is still undergoing an audit process, with the past few days featuring no mention of it in its daily reports.
Consequently, all the latest figures regarding the spread of the virus may not be up to date.
That said, this is what the NDoH’s report from the past 24 hours has to say, with 1 752 new cases recorded, showing that we are still trying to shake off the effects of the fourth wave and Omicron variant of the virus.
The total number of infections recorded to date now sits at 3 623 962, with more than 22.46 million tests having been conducted so far and the recovery rate currently at 96 percent.
The NDoH also reports that 18 fatalities have been recorded.
The department’s aforementioned audit note adds that, “there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 18 deaths and of these, 8 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 95, 835 to date.”
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has only seen 3 831 jabs have been administered, with turnout on a Sunday being particularly poor.
As of 17:00 on 6th February 2022, a total of 30 189 745 vaccines have been administered across SA.
