Facebook again asks us if it’s ‘good for the world’

All the way back in the pre-pandemic days of July 2018 we got a rather strange request from Facebook: partake in a survey and tell it if the platform is “good for the world“. Now in February 2022 it’s doing it again.

Users visiting the social media platform on the mobile app may see a popup that looks like the header image above with your name inserted into the sentence.

Clicking the button to start with survey and there will be around 15 questions to be answered with the most puzzling one being “Please agree or disagree with the following statement: Facebook is good for the world”.

This is the exact same question we got back in 2018. Back then we chalked it up to the various scandals it was involved in at the time (Cambridge Analytica, widespread bugs, security holes and fines to name a few).

What’s funny is that, since then, Facebook has been at the centre of so many problems and other scandals that this question appearing isn’t too surprising.

Many people even suspect that the rebranding of its parent company into “Meta” was a way to distance itself from the sullied Facebook name.

For other problems that Zuckerberg and co. have caused since 2018, see our archives. There’s whistleblowers calling out terrible management, endless misinformation, extremism and a Metaverse that no one wants.

For those who have no interest in taking the survey but still want to see the questions, we’ve transcribed them below.

Other knee slappers, aside from the “good for the world” one include asking if Facebook cares about its users and if we feel in control of our data on the site.

  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with your Facebook experience?
  • If you could choose one part of Facebook to improve, which would it be?
  • How important is Facebook for staying connected to: close friends and family, acquaintances, celebrities and other public figures
  • How do you feel about the number of friends you have on Facebook?
  • How much do you feel in control of your personal information on Facebook?
  • How reliably does Facebook work the way it’s supposed to (i.e. with no errors, bugs or delays)?
  • How easy or difficult is Facebook to use?
  • How useful is Facebook overall?
  • How fun is Facebook overall?
  • How trustworthy is Facebook overall?
  • Please agree or disagree with the following statement: Facebook cares about its users.
  • Please agree or disagree with the following statement: Facebook is good for the world.
  • How much value do you get from using Facebook?
  • Please share any additional feedback you have about your experience of using Facebook (optional).
  • Please share any feedback you have about this survey (optional).”
