Matrics who missed the exam rewrite can register for October/November

Earlier in February Matrics who were not happy with their exam marks, or where unable to write or perform well in them for certain reasons, could register for the May / June rewrites.

Registration for these rewrites has now closed, but there is another opportunity later this year.

“Did you miss the registration deadline for 2022 May / June NSC exams? If you are still an NSC candidate (i.e. not had your certificate changed to SC), you may register to write the 2022 Oct / Nov NSC exams. Register at your nearest education district office before 15 March 2022,” writes the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

Despite this being stated by the Gauteng department it applies to the entirety of South Africa, as the GDE was simply repeating a message from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) from a few days ago.

Unfortunately both the GDE and the DBE only mention that the registration can be done in person, which is unlike the previous round of rewrites which could be registered for online.

Physically travelling anywhere is, of course, a continued risk as the pandemic is still very much here in South Africa. As of today 3 662 032 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the country and 98 868 people have lost their lives to the pandemic.

Despite this those that need to register are advised that the aforementioned education district offices are open from 08:00 to 15:00 between Monday and Friday.

Lastly it’s worth mentioning the NSC and SC abbreviations in the quote above for those who may not know.

The NSC is the National Senior Certificate and it’s what many refer to when discussing Matric. The SC, on the other hand, is the Senior Certificate which is for adult students over the age of 21 which have slightly different criteria and details compared to the NSC.
