NSFAS issues reminder for funding appeals

The application cycle to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is closed, but students you have been denied funding can still apply for appeals to this decision if they fall into certain categories.

NSFAS has today issued a reminder of this on Twitter entitled “who can appeal?“.

“Students who have been assessed as unsuccessful, and who may lodge an appeal, will automatically have access to lodge an appeal.

New applicants are permitted to appeal if rejected on:

  • insufficient information provided
  • Financial ineligibility
  • Academic ineligibility

GAP year students — must re-apply for NSFAS Funding

Continuing Students are permitted to appeal if rejected based on:

  • Financial ineligibility
  • Academic ineligibility

Students are not permitted to appeal if they have reached N+2 (or N+3 in the case of a student living with a disability).”

More information about the appeals process can, of course, be found on the NSFAS website. The appeals details are available right on the home page, as are downloadable forms which need to be submitted for certain kinds of appeals.

For those struggling with the appeals process we again go to Twitter to find a bit more information from the official NSFAS account.

Below you can see that the account has retweeted a man named Kagisho Mamabolo, who is listed as a national spokesperson for NSFAS.

Mamabolo will regularly tweet out important information like below which covers the appeals button not appearing in the myNSFAS student portal.

Last week the portal suffered substantial downtime due to too much traffic and, while it has recovered and is now online again, some problems may linger.
