The Android app preview for Windows 11 is here, for users in the US

One of the marquee features for Windows 11 was the ability to run Android apps without needing a third-party app such as BlueStacks. However, Windows 11 users have been waiting for this feature since the OS was released.

Earlier this month Microsoft announced that a public preview of its integration with the Amazon App Store for Android apps would be available soon. That preview has arrived, but it is sadly exclusive to users in the US.

“Windows 11 users in the U.S. can access the Amazon Appstore Preview in the Microsoft Store, and popular apps like Audible, Kindle, Subway Surfers, Lords Mobile, Khan Academy Kids and many more. This experience, built on the Android platform and supported by Intel Bridge Technology, introduces a new category of mobile apps and games available for Windows,” Microsoft’s chief product officer for Windows and devices, Panos Panay wrote in a blog.

Whether Microsoft will expand the reach of this preview is not clear, but there is a Windows 11 update that was released that you may want to download.

The update brings some of the features released in the Windows Insider Beta Channel to the final release as a preview. These include the ability to have the clock appear on multiple monitors, the weather and news widget in the taskbar as well as improvements for Microsoft Teams.

The improvements include a new microphone icon that will appear on the taskbar during a Teams call. This will allow users to easily toggle their microphone’s muted status.

“Additionally, window sharing for any open app is just two clicks away – simply hover over the app icon on your Taskbar to launch the share control, then confirm you’re ready to share it live. This will help you confidently share just the content you mean to share and nothing more,” said Panay

In addition to these features, there are new versions of the Windows Media Player and Notepad available to download through the Microsoft Store.

The update – KB5010414 – is available now and you can find a full list of changes and fixes here.
