It looks like government’s efforts to ramp up the vaccine rollout to fight the spread of COVID-19 in in South Africa are beginning to have an impact.
This as the past 24 hours has seen 104 643 jabs administered, which is up from the previous day and marks three consecutive days where the numbers of vaccines administered has increased.
As such, it bodes well for reaching population immunity and improves our chances of fighting off the effects of future waves of infection, provided it continues to increase.
While we wait to see if the momentum can be sustained, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) shows that the figures of the past 24 hours are relatively low.
To that end, the NDoH says 1 995 new cases have been reported, with the total number of infections recorded to date now sitting at 3 677 686. The department also notes that 28 fatalities have been reported, marking another day where no surge in that metric has been recorded.
As for the other key figures in the report, the recovery rate remains at 96.6 percent and more than 23.13 million tests have been conducted to date.
