Eskom extends stage 2 loadshedding until Saturday morning

True to form, Eskom has extended stage 2 loadshedding. The power utility took to Twitter to share an alert notifying the country that stage 2 loadshedding has been extended until 05:00 on Saturday morning.

In its power alert, Eskom cited the unreliability of generating units currently, choosing to extend loadshedding in order to avoid a higher level.

While we can understand the general trepidation to move out of stage 2 given Eskom’s spotty history in this regard, the announcement is rather confusing given that the power utility has been able to return four generating units since last night.

A further two units are expected to return to day, Eskom confirmed, with the current situation seeing total breakdowns amounting to 16 505MW.

Whether we could see a higher stage of loadshedding later this week, remains to be seen, but the past 24 hours gives us little cause for optimism.

As always, we advise using mobile apps like EskomSePush to stay up to date on loadhsedding in your area and charge your devices accordingly.
