A few hours ago Marvel released the very first trailer and look at Ms. Marvel, another series coming to Disney+. In that short amount of time it has cracked 10 million views, and that’s just on YouTube alone.
As you can see in the header image above that milestone has just been reached. Refreshing the page updates it with thousands more views so it will likely be even higher when you click play.
The trailer, which you can see in the embed below, introduces us to Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel.
It seems that, for the most part, this version of the character is very close to other iterations with Khan a massive fan of heroes – especially Captain Marvel – before she too gains superpowers.
The biggest deviation here that many of those 10 million have already pointed out, is how her powers differ in how they work. In the comics, the videogames and just about everywhere else Ms. Marvel has the power to grow, stretch and shapeshift similar to Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic 4, but with some differences.
In this series, however, these powers are instead displayed as energy projections. It’s a bit of a cop out and it’s a real shame because so many characters in the MCU just shoot different rays of CGI at each other and a shapeshifter like Ms. Marvel would have been a nice change.
YouTube wasn’t the only place that the Ms. Marvel trailer was officially uploaded but we usually use it as the gold standard for true view counts as other platforms seem to be very hit or miss when it comes to accurate reporting.
Infamously Facebook has been caught out many times for artificially inflating these numbers, but let’s look at it too. Right now it’s reporting 2.8 million views on the official Marvel Studios Facebook page here.
That same page also released a poster for the show which is embedded at the bottom of this post. It seems that, at some point in the show, the more familiar suit of this superhero is donned.
Finally, over on Twitter, the upload from the Marvel Studios account has 6.9 million views.
Ms. Marvel launches only Disney+ on 8th June. South Africa still has no access to this streaming platform but that will change by the middle of 2022 according to Disney.
