Here’s the timetable for the May / June Matric exam rewrite

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has revealed the timetable for the May / June Matric exam rewrite.

These rewrites were open for all Matric students to register for and eligibility could be granted simply for students wanting to obtain better results.

Other criteria for applications included missing exams due to medical emergencies, a death in the family, injury and more.

Registration closed for these rewrites in February and now those who are included can look over the schedule to see when they will be writing again.

The May / June rewrite period will start on 9th May with several language papers, and end on 23rd June with Computer Applications Technology (CAT), Information Technology (IT) and Business Studies.

These exams will not be held over weekends or public holidays. The one public holiday that falls within the timetable, Youth Day on 16th June, has no exams planned for the day.

Students who missed their chance to register for these rewrites still have a chance to sit for another session of exams closer to the end of the year.

There will be another exam season in October / November with much of the same registration details as the previous rewrites.

The biggest difference, as far as we can tell, is that these later exams can only be registered for in person with the online options seemingly not available.

More details about registration for the October / November rewrites can be found in our previous story.

As we discussed in that story we don’t understand why the decision was made to remove the online registration, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic continues in South Africa and travelling anywhere in person puts students and their caregivers at risk. Hopefully this is changed before registration closes on 15th March.
