Internships to apply for before the end of March 2022

While unemployment remains a blight on South African society, for those newly graduated or looking for jobs, options seem few and far between. It is why internships have become vital as a foot in the door and potentially leading to more gainful employment down the line.

With this in mind, we have wrangled up five internships currently listed and looking for applicants. These internships close at varying times during the month of March, so it is best to get your application in as soon as possible.

We also suggest looking on portals like The Student Room and Graduates24 daily, as new internships are posted all the time. The former is also a great resource when it comes to searching for bursaries.

Hypertext also regularly posts stories about local and international internships, so be sure to check in with us too.

National Energy Regulator (NERSA)

Nersa is actively looking for unemployed graduates to join its internship and learnership programme, with openings in more than 12 different divisions/disciplines. Unfortunately the closing date is fast approaching, with applications needing to be in by 4th March.

Outside of needing a relevant qualification for the desired division within Nersa, which includes legal advisory services, electricity licensing and compliance, supply chain management, human resources management and more, the regulator says CVs, full academic record and certified copies of ID are required to apply.

Nersa adds that the relevant reference number and division for applications must be present. You can find that necessary info on this PDF, with applications needing to be emailed to applications[at]nersa[dot]org[dot]za.

AVBOB

Up next is AVBOB, which has partnered with the YES Graduate Programme on this internship opportunity.

The company is specifically looking for an unemployed graduate to join its sales division, which means a three-year recognised qualification and some experience in that field is ideal for prospective candidates.

Based in Soweto and closing on 8th March, details on how to apply for this internship can be found on AVBOB’s job portal here.

Nelson Mandela Foundation

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has two opportunities – an internship and fellowship programme.

Our focus is on the former, but the fellowship is aimed at those completing or planning to complete their Master’s degree. Applications for it close on 11th March when an expected start date of 11th April. Full details on it can be found here.

Back to the internship, which closes on 10th March, and the Foundation is looking for unemployed graduates in a number of fields, including marketing and PR, production and editing, finance, research and more.

These would be for 12-month long contracts with a monthly stipend, but a figure has not been disclosed.

To enquire about vacancies or apply for multiple positions, applicants are advised to email hr[at]nelsonmandela[dot]org, and address it to Ms B. Mzondeki.

Services SETA

Much like Nersa and AVBOB, Services SETA is looking for interns in a myriad different divisions. All of them close for applications on 10th March, so you need to act quickly.

In terms of requirements, you must be a an unemployed graduate and applying for an internship in a field where you have a relevant three-year recognised qualification. These are also for 12-month long engagements and a monthly stipend of R5 000 has been outlined.

Head to the Services SETA portal here to apply and look at the more than 13 internship opportunities that it has for 2022.

Microsoft

Microsoft South Africa has different internship opportunities available to local unemployed graduates. The listings were posted on 29th February and closing dates have not been specified. As such, it is best to apply as soon as possible.

The internships include technology sales, customer success, sales-partner development, customer engineer and sales specialist.

In terms of requirements, a qualification or degree in a ICT-related field is needed. No details on compensation or stipends has been noted, nor has the length of said internships, but they can all be found at this portal. Just make sure to change the region to South Africa.
