Uber to suspend fare splitting as it looks for better system

While locally you may find it difficult to find a ride on Uber given the current e-hailing driver strike, the ridesharing service will also make another feature difficult to access next month – fare splitting.

This as Uber is looking to suspend the feature as it looks for a better system moving forward.

Uber informed its UK users of the upcoming suspension via an email notification this week, with a new version said to be on the way in the next few months, although a definite timeframe was not mentioned.

“We are in the process of reworking how riders split fares and the feature will be temporarily removed from the Uber app next month,” an unnamed Uber spokesperson told Engadget.

“We know this is a popular feature, so rest assured that we are planning to roll out a new, improved version in the coming months,” they added.

Uber also clarified that although the aforementioned email to UK users has outlined 21st March as the date the feature would stop working, it is indeed happening in April.

As the publication notes, while fare splitting with the Uber itself is going away next month, the ability to split fares is not entirely inaccessible. This as users can still use third-party mobile payment platforms affiliated with Uber, such as Venmo and the Cash App.

Locally it is unclear which similar solution would work, however.
