7 shows and movies to stream in April 2022

Much like millions of others, we are eagerly awaiting the conclusion of Ozark at the end of the month. The final series of the show was split into two parts and the second part of that season is set to arrive on Netflix 29th April.

The wait is going to be arduous, but thankfully we have a slew of great content scheduled from both Showmax and Netflix to keep us satiated while we sit in the Ozark waiting room.

Let’s start with the talk of the town at the moment, Will Smith and his new take on the series that cemented his acting career, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This new show, simply titled Bel-Air appears to be a grittier take on the original show and also serves as a prequel that is set in modern-day America.

Bel-Air is streaming on Showmax from 1st April

Sticking with Showmax, Yellowjackets is also set to premiere on the streaming service on 1st April. This show tells the story of adult survivors of a plane crash that stranded their high school soccer team in the Canadian wilderness. The show has a 100 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was named Best Horror at the Critics Choice awards. Yellowjackets has been renewed for a second season.

Moving across to Netflix, The Bubble asks the question – how do you film a movie during a pandemic? This is a comedy film directed by Judd Apatow staring Pedro Pascal, Leslie Mann and Keegan-Michael Key. This looks like it will be a fun watch especially with this cast of comedy heavyweights but we’ll have to wait for its release on 1st April to make a call.

On 7th April the highly anticipated Netflix documentary Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star becomes available. Footballer Senzo Meyiwa was a national hero before his killing shocked South Africa. Who did it, and why? This docuseries dives into the evidence.

On 11th April the short-film Waiting for Goldman arrives on Showmax. This is an interesting looking film that follows Mikey and Clinton, two hitmen assigned to kill financial broker Ivan Goldman. The trouble is, neither of the pair knows what Goldman looks like. The short-film was directed by Ari Kruger who co-created Tali’s Wedding Diary and Tali’s Baby Diary. Unfortunately we don’t have a trailer, but put this in your diary.

Finally, the film we’re most looking forward to next month is Silverton Siege. This Netflix Original tells the story of a group of freedom fighters who try to execute a sabotage mission only for it to go wrong. This escalates into a bank hostage situation and births the “Free Mandela” movement. The film stars Thabo Rametsi, Noxolo Dlamini, Stefan Erasmus, and Arnold Vosloo. We can’t wait to see it when it lands on 27th April.
