BAYC is reportedly getting a short film trilogy

Had you thought that the fervor surround NFTs had died down, we’re sorry to inform you that your thinking needs to change.

That’s because, according to a report from CoinDesk, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), the NFT collection from Yuga Labs, will be getting not just one movie, but a full trilogy. Granted, these are short films so don’t expect a Hollywood size production here.

That having been said, Coinbase will be backing the film. Given this is the firm’s first stab at media, it could be good but it could also be a disaster.

The three short films will be known as The Degen Trilogy and will premiere at NFT.NYC in June. If like us you’re wondering how these films will be made given the prevalence of BAYC owners and the fact that some may not want their ape on screen, there is a solution.

Owners of BAYC NFTs can submit their ape for consideration as characters for the films along with character descriptions. These will be reviewed by a casting director according to Coindesk but as of time of writing there is very little information about this project even the website is devoid of information. The header image above comes from a trailer launched in March teasing Yuga Labs’ metaverse powered by its own ApeCoin.

In order to watch these films after release you will need to create a Coinbase wallet. This is meant to tie in with Coinbase’s launch of its own NFT marketplace so it’s a move that makes sense but we have to wonder how many people will create an account and then just never use it again.

It’s clear that these films are meant for folks who play in the NFT space and isn’t a way to get more folks to buy rare cartoonish apes. There is currently no information as regards how much The Degen Trilogy will cost to make nor who will star in the film.

It should also be made clear that while Yuga Labs will be watching production and providing approvals, it isn’t directly involved in the production.

If Coinbase and Yuga Labs are taking suggestions, we recommend Jimmy Fallon and Paris Hilton. If anything, this cringe inducing exchange will put most people off of buying a space on a blockchain represented by a .jpeg.
