This week the spectre of loadshedding has risen once again as the country will likely have to contend with COVID-19 in South Africa and the Easter weekend without constant access to power.
As such it puts a strain on what was already set to be a tense time give that this month’s flurry of holidays was seen as a potential trigger for a fifth wave of infections.
It still remains to be seen if that will come to fruition, but for now the latest numbers regarding the spread of the virus are relatively low.
To that end, the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that only 553 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours. This sees the total number of cases recorded to date in SA reach 3 732 628.
The department also notes that two fatalities have been reported too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 100 098. The other key figures in the NDoH report sees the recovery rate unmoved at 97 percent, while more than 24.07 million tests have been conducted to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has 43 627 jabs administered, with turnout likely low due to the upcoming public holidays. Added to this is the fact that boosters make up a large portion of jabs administered at 18 608.
As of 17:00 on 11th April 2022, a total of 34 195 988 vaccines have been administered across SA.
