Elden Ring’s toughest bosses are bugged in version 1.04

On Tuesday From Software released patch 1.04 for Elden Ring. This patch buffed a number of Incantations as well as some of the larger weapons in the game.

Unfortunately, several bugs have also reared their head and sadly, these bugs appear to affect bosses as well.

At the time of writing the bosses in question are the Fire Giant, the Godskin Duo in Crumbling Farum Azula and the final boss of the game.

We experienced this bug with the Fire Giant on Wednesday evening. Essentially, applying any sort of status effect to the Fire Giant just before it hits its second phase will cause the boss’ health bar to just drain consistently in the second phase.

Seriously, one doesn’t even need to throw an attack for the boss to just die. While some have said this was caused by the Bleed status effect building up during the cutscene that launches Phase 2, we ran this fight with Scarlet Rot, Fire and Bleed status effects so it seems that any status could proc this.

The Godskin Duo bug is somewhat similar but for now only seems to appear when using the Bleed status effect. This bug is a bit more confusing as this fight contains various “phases”. That said, applying Bleed will evaporate the boss’ health bar and net you a win.

You can see these bugs in effect in the video below.

The bug for Elden Beast is less egregious as it simply allows a player to more easily stun lock the boss. Not that being able to cheese the final boss is good mind you but at least you’re not just draining its health bar.

But wait, it gets worse.

Malenia, Blade of Miquella is able to steal life from the player without landing a hit. This bug seemingly only appears when a player summons another player to help in the fight and more so, this also looks like a connectivity issue.

As you can see in the video clip below, the player is clearly within the range of Waterfowl Dance and while their health doesn’t deplete, Malenia’s health increases. You can see Let Me Solo Her having a tough time with the boss below.

We really hope that From Software can patch these bugs fast. Sure, the Fire Giant fight is now MUCH easier, but finding out after the fact that we beat it because of a bug just feels bad.

We’re sure players will take advantage of these bugs but we’re putting a pin in our Elden Ring playthrough until they are fixed.

Do we feel bad about beating the Fire Giant this way? Yes and no, after three days of banging our head against that wall, we’re just happy to have it behind us.
