FIFA+ is a free streaming service that will feature 40 000+ matches in 2022

Everyone is getting into streaming these days, and we mean everyone as this week FIFA+ was announced as a freely accessible streaming platform by world football’s governing body.

To that end, the platform will feature a pretty wide breath of content for football fans to access, with live matches, replays, documentaries and variety shows set to be made available.

It is important to note that you’re likely not going to be able to watch football from leagues across the globe, so the Premier League and PSL probably won’t be available.

That said, FIFA has big plans for the platform in 2022, with more than 40 000 matches set to be viewable on the service throughout the rest of the year.

Over 29 000 men’s matches and over 11 000 women’s matches will be streamed on FIFA+ in 2022, the governing body noted. Added to this, the platform’s first slate of FIFA+ Originals will feature Ronaldinho, Dani Alves, Ronaldo Nazário, Romelu Lukaku, Lucy Bronze and Carli Lloyd.

“FIFA+ represents the next step in our vision to make football truly global and inclusive, and it underpins FIFA’s core mission of expanding and developing football globally,” adds FIFA President Gianni Infantino, in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“This project represents a cultural shift in the way different types of football fans want to connect with and explore the global game and has been a fundamental part of my Vision 2020-2023. It will accelerate the democratisation of football and we are delighted to share it with fans,” he continues.

Whether this platform will see return that FIFA is hoping, remains to be seen, but it should serve as a handy distraction given all the polarising opinions of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with human rights violations being alleged in the build up to the tournament.

The showpiece event will also feature on FIFA+. This as every FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup match ever recorded on camera will be available in an archive.

There will also be the ability to watch full-match replays, highlights and goals, but don’t expect to see live 2022 World Cup games as licensing in different regions, not to mention potentially lost revenue, would impact this.
