Four things we’d love to see in Elden Ring DLC

Despite taking our time and sipping Elden Ring to fully enjoy the experience, we are reaching the end of the game and we’re already hoping for more content.

That’s not to say there isn’t already an abundance of content available. With as many as six, potentially more, endings and areas that we haven’t even explored, Elden Ring is still a mysterious location after 100 hours in the game.

But we want to talk about the story that From Software is telling in this game because there are multiple avenues the developer could take to expand this story. While the developer hasn’t made mention of DLC, this game is primed for additional content and sequels so we’re hedging our bets and expecting FromSoft to expand on this IP.

Note, these theories will touch on spoilers from the main game.

The ominous Greater Will

Throughout your time in The Lands Between you will learn of the Greater Will. This Outer God, as it is known, sent the Elden Beast to The Lands Between as a vassal and this beast appears to have been the creator of the Erdtree. With the Elden Beast now gone, the future of The Lands Between, the Erdtree and indeed the Greater Will is in question.

The player’s connection to the Greater Will, the Two Fingers were seen communing with the Greater Will toward the end of the game and we’re told that this could take thousands of years so there is potential for these entities to form part of DLC. That having been said, the reveal of the Greater Will and potentially other Outer Gods is something that is likely best suited for a sequel.

The centre of the map

The Elden Ring open world is massive and there are very few places you can’t go. One of those places is the very centre of the map. In each area of the map players will find Divine Towers. These towers were used by the demi-gods to commune with their own two fingers and the way they are set up points to something that is currently shrouded in fog.

This has lead many in the community to speculate that there could be a final Divine Tower that Queen Marika used.

Could a DLC focus on Queen Marika? We’d really hope it would if only to clarify the concepts introduced in the main game and clear up confusion about the relationship between her and Radagon.

While players have glitched their way to the centre of the map, all they’ve found is an empty hole. This has lead to theories that something could be added in future and while it is rather small in comparison to the rest of the map, Elden Ring has shown it’s not afraid to introduce sprawling floating and underground areas players don’t expect.

The child

One of Elden Ring’s toughest bosses is Malenia, Blade of Miquella and the story of her and her brother, Miquella, is perhaps the most intriguing of all Elden Ring’s characters. While Malenia may be dead depending on the player’s run through the game, we see a glimpse of Miquella.

Miquella’s body.

This character was cursed to remain a child but when we see them in the Mogwhyn Palace, they are most certainly not a child anymore. With ties to The Formless Mother – another Outer God – St. Trina and the Halig Tree, we suspect that Miquella will form an important part of the Elden Ring story moving forward and could serve as a way to introduce the Outer Gods in a sequel.

Who the heck is Melina really?

Having accompanied us on our journey and helping to commit a Cardinal Sin, we still have very little insight into who Melina is. Our main theory is that she is Ranni’s twin. We need to go into some lore here to explain why we have this theory.

Naming conventions in Elden Ring are rather revealing. For instance, the daughter of Radagon and Renalla is Ranni while the children of Marika and Radagon are Malenia and Miquella. Sure, Radagon’s R isn’t accounted for here but this is likely because we discover that Marika and Radagon are the same person.

Our theory is that when Radagon left Renalla he was already fusing or becoming Marika. The lore states that Renalla is obsessed with Rebirth. We also know that Ranni discarded her Great Rune which meant that she couldn’t become Elden Lord. So, perhaps Radagon and Renalla attempted to rebirth Ranni so that she would become Elden Lord. However, Radagon then left and when becoming Marika or fusing with her, Melina was born making her the true first child of the pair but unable to become an Empyrean for fear of revealing their secret.

There is an ending which reveals one of Melina’s eyes is similar to that of Ranni’s which has served for the basis of this theory. Major spoilers are contained in the video embedded below.

We’d love a DLC that further explains the relationship between Renalla and Radagon as it’s one of the bigger holes in the Elden Ring story that could help to just add that extra slice of context to round out the lore.

In truth, From Software could go in any direction with Elden Ring, even backwards in time. We just want more of this game and more lore to suck up.
