In what is arguably one of the more peculiar stories involving non-fungible tokens, over the weekend, the meme famous Ghanian coffin dancers have sold their video for a little over $1 million in Ethereum during an auction.
More specifically one of the coffin dancers, Benjamin Aidooh, sold the meme, confirming on Twitter that the meme video was purchased by a music studio in the Middle East, 3F Music.
Congratulations to the official owner of Coffin Dance world fame @3fmusic
We would like to say thank you to everyone who supported our NFT, especially guys from the @Bads_Zlodei: Dmitry Makarov, Eugene Lapitsky, Mykhailo Vatazhok #NFT #Coffindance #MemeEconomy pic.twitter.com/uPmOC9IkYl

The 10-second long clip sold for precisely 327 ETH, which translates to in and around $1 million at the time of writing, depending on what exchange you use.
Along with congratulating 3F Music, Aidooh also explained that he would be donating 25 percent of the money garnered from the NFT auction to charity, with an estimated $250 000 already donated to a Ukrainian defence charity, according to reports.
We still remain on the fence when it comes to NFTs, mainly as many of the artists and organisations that join the fray are often looking to capitalise on their already substantial success.
This, however, is one of the more pleasing examples of a smaller creator using NFTs to their advantage, along with being charitable in the process.
The only remaining question is what Aidooh’s other original coffin dancers stand to earn from the auction too?
For now though, this is one of the most intriguing NFT-related pieces of news we have seen to date, with iAfrikan also positing that it may be the most expensive NFT sale on the African continent so far.
