Naspers donates R5 million to Gift of the Givers for KZN relief efforts

In the wake the KwaZulu-Natal floods leading up to and during the recent Easter weekend, we have seen a number of organisations from the private sector step up to assist where possible, like MTN.

The latest to do so is Naspers, which has announced that it will donate R5 million to Gift of the Givers in order to assist with disaster relief.

Gift of the Givers has already been hard at work providing assistance where possible to those affected by the disastrous floods and remains on the ground supporting disaster management teams in the province.

Naspers says the R5 million will be disbursed relief efforts, including, but are not limited to, providing food, blankets and shelter to communities who have suffered severe and material loss as a result of recent events.

“We are facing a humanitarian crisis as a country. The events in KwaZulu-Natal over the past week or so are terrible and we are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the floods. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives and our thoughts are with the many displaced communities,” noted Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa, South Africa CEO of Naspers, regarding the donation.

“We hope that our donation can help save lives and restore the dignity of those in need, and we encourage everyone to do what they can during this difficult time,” added Bob van Dijk, Group CEO of Prosus and Naspers.

Those organisations wanting to provide assistance were possible are urged to reach out to Gift of the Givers via its website here.
