As we near the end of May, the past month has seen numbers related to the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa see-saw.
It has therefore been difficult to determine whether the country is indeed out of the recent surge in cases, as the temperature continues to drop and the threat of loadshedding always looms large.
The next couple of months look to be tough ones then.
Looking at the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) for now, the past 24 hours has seen 1 774 new cases recorded. The result sees the total number of infections recorded to date now climb to 3 953 967.
The department also notes that four fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 101 146.
Other key figures in the latest report confirm that the recovery rate currently sits at 96.2 percent with 3 803 725 recoveries reported, while more than 25.23 million tests have been conducted to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 3 225 jabs administered owing to it being a Sunday. As of 17:00 on 29th May 2022, a total of 36 020 076 vaccines have been administered across the country.
