Dying Light’s Hellraid gets one last update

The paid Dying Light DLC – Hellraid – is now officially finished as developer and publisher Techland announce its final update.

Before looking at what’s in this update a quick history lesson is in order. Hellraid was released in August 2020 for the original Dying Light, itself an older title even then from January 2015.

Hellraid is a unique experience which is focused on sword and sorcery as players take on skeletons and other fantasy enemies instead of the usual zombies.

The reason this DLC is so different is the fact that it’s actually a cancelled game that was repurposed into a paid experience.

Since launch Hellraid has been continually updated, much like the base game of Dying Light, receiving a story mode and more over the years.

While the expansion focuses on melee even more so than the base game, the final update adds in Deathbringer, the only gun available. Between the setting, the skeletons and the misplaced shotgun, we’re getting heavy Army of Darkness vibes.

The hero art of a knight wielding a gun also reminds us of the classic “parry this, you filthy casual” meme.

On top of Deathbringer and a slew of balance changes and updates, there’s some specific changes Techland highlights:

  • Discover new Crystal consumables in the Raid Mode! Each offers a unique, strong buff, but remember… Power always comes with a price. Are you willing to make the trade?
  • Purchase wands and the Shock Bearer in the Hellraid Shop, and carry them to Harran! Time to bring some magic to the surface, IF you can handle it.
  • Complete bounties to get all thirteen new Hellraid weapon blueprints! You’ll craft them with Weapon Remnants found in the Hellraid chest.

For those who still haven’t played the original Dying Light, the game is on sale right now with between 50 and 70 percent off until 12th May depending on the version you buy. The Hellraid expansion is also on sale.
