Here’s what’s coming to Netflix and Showmax in May

With Winter approaching nobody is going to judge you for spending the colder nights indoors, well, we won’t and we’re admittedly a small sample size.

Truth be told, the month ahead looks like a visit to old friends with returning seasons and new shows starring familiar faces. Of course, the highlight this month is Stranger Things with its fourth season. Netflix really wants you to watch that show, but we have more suggestions to keep you going.

On that note, And Just Like That debuted on Showmax at the weekend. This show is a successor to Sex and the City and is set 11 years after the film Sex and the City 2.

“Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reprise their much-loved roles as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (Samantha has sadly moved on). Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sarita Choudhury (Homeland) come in as new characters,” reads a blurb about the show.

The full series of And Just Like That is now available on Showmax.

Later this week a show from Netflix we’ve been waiting for with anticipation for sometime now debuts. The Pentaverate stars Mike Myers and is said to be a spin-off of his black comedy So I Married an Axe Murderer.

The series follows a secret society that has manipulated world events for centuries and now faces an internal threat. It should be a bit of fun when the series debuts on Netflix on 5th May.

Also on 5th May, the second season of Strangers You Know, the true-crime docuseries from the producers of Carte Blanche lands on Showmax.

This season will look at the most brutal crimes in South Africa including the cases of Anene Booysen, Jayde Panayiotou, Karabo Mokoena and the Van Breda family.

How about something completely off-the-wall?

Local horror film Fried Barry lands on Showmax on 19th May and we could try to describe it, but Showmax’s blurb does a far better job.

“Barry is a drug-addled degenerate who – after yet another bender – is abducted by aliens. Barry takes a backseat as an alien visitor assumes control of his body and takes it for a joyride through Cape Town. What follows is an onslaught of drugs, sex and violence as our alien tourist enters the weird and wonderful world of humankind,” reads the description of this movie.

As we said, off-the-wall, and from the trailer this looks like it’s one that isn’t for the kids.

Turning now to Netflix, we head back to Hawkins for Stranger Things 4: Volume 1 on 27th May. There are new terrors to face, a threat of a war and some killer 80s nostalgia. We’re definitely watching this because the CGI and make-up looks fantastic this time around.
