Internships to apply for before the end of May 2022

While unemployment remains a blight on South African society, for those newly graduated or looking for jobs, options seem few and far between. It is why internships have become vital as a foot in the door and potentially leading to more gainful employment down the line.

With this in mind, we have wrangled up five internships currently open and looking for applicants. These internships close at varying times during the month of May, so it is best to get your application in as soon as possible.

We also suggest looking on portals like The Student Room and Graduates24 daily, as new internships are posted all the time. The former is also a great resource when it comes to searching for bursaries.

Hypertext also regularly posts stories about local and international internships, so be sure to check in with us too.

Massmart

Massmart has announced as many as five different roles as part of its 2022/2023 graduate internship programme. Four of the internships are open nationally, with qualifications ranging from a number of business and retail-related fields being looked at.

One specific internship is focused supply chain management, along with being based in KwaZulu-Natal and looking for graduates with physical disabilities in particular.

The different roles and applications can be made here. You will need to act quickly though, as closing dates for these internships is 6th May.

Department of Employment and Labour

Next is the Department of Labour, which is offering internship opportunities for those in the North West.

Closing dates for these positions, with a qualification in public administration and management, are 16th May, with an application form needing to be completed too.

These internships are for a full year, stretching into 2024, with a monthly stipend of R6 083.66.

Rand Merchant Bank

Next is RMB, which is looking for recent unemployed graduates in a number of different fields, including commerce, science, technology, mathematics and engineering.

Unfortunately no mention is made of how long the internship is for, and indeed what kind of remuneration is being offered, but closing dates are 30th June, so this is quite a bit of time available to weigh up your options.

More details, as well as application details, can be found here.

Siemens

Siemens, and specifically its energy division, is looking for graduates to join its internship programme for the Southern and Eastern Africa region.

The company has outlined different fields of study for recent graduates, including engineering (electrical, mechanical, mechatronics), sales/marketing and business management, but no information on the length of the internship, nor the monthly stipend have been shared at the time of writing.

An up to date CV, as well as copies of your qualification, are needed for application, which can be found here.

National Department of Health

Last is the National Department of Health (NDoH), which is one of several government departments that is looking to take in recent graduates for its internship programmes.

The NDoH is casting a fairly wide net, with graduates in fields like law, journalism, accounting, human resources, logistics, communications amd more being listed.

Closing date for these internships is 13th May with it being for a period of 24 months and for those aged between 18 and 35, but the NDoH has not advised on how much they will pay. The page for applications can be found here.
