Stage 2 loadshedding returns again on Wednesday afternoon

Eskom has yet again announced the implementation of stage 2 loadshedding this afternoon from 17:00 until 22:00. It marks the third day in a row that loadshedding has been announced in what has become an all too familiar, but equally concerning trend.

As for why the power utility has had to implement stage 2 loadshedding for a third day in a row, a power alert shared on Twitter says a return in generating capacity has proved challenging.

To that end, this morning two generating units at the Hendrina power station and one unit at the Matimba power station have been taken offline in order to conduct repairs.

More generating units are expected to return this afternoon, but given the current volatility and increased electricity use as a result of the colder weather, stage 2 loadshedding is being implemented as a precaution.

The power utility has urged South Africans to use electricity sparingly during the periods when loadshedding is not in effect in their areas, but that will prove difficult given the aforementioned weather.

We suggest making use of the EskomSePush app in order to stay up to date on loadshedding in your area.
