For the second long weekend in a row, Eskom has been forced to implement stage 2 loadshedding.
Eskom made the announcement via a power alert on Twitter earlier today, confirming that stage 2 loadshedding would need to be in place from 17:00 this afternoon until next week Monday at 5:00 in the morning.
As such, the next few days and potentially longer, will be severely disrupted by a shortage in generating capacity.
Eskom explained that a failure to return generating capacity is the reason for stage 2 loadshedding, also noting that units at Lethabo, Tutuka, Ingula, Drakensberg, Arnot, Hendrina and Matla have all suffered breakdowns since yesterday.
The power utility expects to return necessary capacity over the coming days, but should more breakdowns occur, we could see loadshedding rise to a higher stage.
Either way, the issues we saw in April in terms of electricity supply have continued into May, all while the temperature drops. Needless to say it will be a tough month for many.
