The first Dying Light gets another update, this time for PvP

Dying Light has yet another update with the 2015 game’s Be the Zombie player versus player mode receiving some changes.

What’s even more surprising is that this doesn’t seem to be coming out of nowhere with player engagement pegged as one of the reasons for the changes.

“Thanks to our amazing community members who have been introducing multiple tweaks and balance changes to the mode, Be the Zombie has been getting continuously better throughout the years. We’ve been regularly implementing the fixes you asked for, and this upcoming update will release the last round of them,” an announcement reads.

“Now you can play with the Survivor Sense even more efficiently, surprising enemies with your enhanced ability. We also decided to remove some items from the Be the Zombie mode to make sure your PvP experience is fair and balanced, and keeps bringing fun to everyone.”

While we don’t have any concrete numbers about just how many people are in Dying Light multiplayer, especially in the Be the Zombie mode, we do have a tiny bit of insight thanks to the official Steam & Game Stats page from Valve.

This page lists the current and 24 hour peak player counts for the top 100 games on Steam. At the time of publication Dying Light manages to just sneak onto the list in 99th place.

With 5 5205 current people in the game and a peak number of 9 115, it’s clear that thousands of people are still playing. That number is likely much higher as it only represents Steam players – there’s probably many more on consoles.

Those with an interest in Be the Zombie can find the full patch notes for the update here. They’re surprisingly detailed.

Those experiencing déjà vu may be confusing this news with the recent announcement that Hellraid would be getting its final update.

Hellraid is a paid expansion for the first Dying Light which was meant to be a standalone game at some point. That mode was also recently announced to be getting an update that will wrap up its development.

Hellraid and Be the Zombie are two completely different arms of Dying Light, which means that developer and publisher Techland is still pouring a lot of effort into its first game despite its sequel not being entirely beloved to say the least.
