At the end of March Sony announced some upcoming changes to its gaming subscription service, with PlayStation Plus plans being split into three new tiers.
At the time little was known as far as what games would be available on each tier, but a PlayStation Blog post has shared all the details, along with noting which region the different tiers will be launching too first.
As a refresher, PlayStation Plus Essential will cost $9.99 per month, offering two downloadable games per month, exclusive discounts, cloud storage for saved games and online multiplayer access.
PlayStation Plus Extra is where you get access to everything in the Essential tier, as well as a catalogue of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games for $14.99 per month.
PlayStation Plus Premium is the highest tier, although in some markets it will be known as PlayStation Plus Deluxe and carry a lower price.
For $17.99 a month you’ll be able to stream PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PSP and PS4 games. PlayStation Plus Premium includes all of the benefits from the previous tiers, downloads of original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP games and time-limited game trials. The Deluxe alternative excludes streaming and will depend on region.
It should also be worth noting that regardless of which tier you are subscribed to, you will still get access to the three free-to-play titles that the service has been offering for years.
As for content outside of the aforementioned monthly three, there are quite a few PlayStation-specific and third-party offerings being added to the mix.
“We’re focused on adding high quality titles into the PlayStation Plus service for players to enjoy. I’m pleased to share a selection of the content that will be available for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans,” writes Nick Maguire, VP of Services, Global Sales and Business Operations at SIE.

Now for the classic games catalog. Here Sony explains that, “PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members will have a selection of popular classic games to play, with some titles that will show improved frame rates and higher-quality resolution compared to their original launch versions.”
“Also, players who have previously purchased the digital version of games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase,” the company adds.

Lastly, in terms of region availability, Sony confirms that, “Launch is just a week away, starting with Asia on May 24, followed by Japan on June 2, North and South America on June 13, and finally Europe, Australia, and New Zealand on June 23.”
For South Africa, current PlayStation Plus subscribers can expect a change in their plans come 22nd June, based on email communications that were sent out in late April.
