Ubisoft+ is coming to PlayStation but as Ubisoft+ Classics first

Toward the end of our recent africast discussing the weird year it’s been for gaming, we wondered allowed about what Ubisoft is doing aside from NFTs and we have something of an answer.

No, Ubisoft isn’t being purchased by Sony a la Bungie, at least not yet. Today Ubisoft has said that Ubisoft+, its gaming subscription service, “will come to PlayStation in the future, bringing access to more than 100 titles, additional content packs and rewards to the platform”.

While gaming subscriptions are great, as we discovered when we initially tried Ubisoft+ at launch, having access to games from one publisher isn’t the best experience. That having been said, having access to a multitude of games for a price that is lower than a single game, even if just for one month, is a decent proposition.

While we don’t know exactly when Ubisoft+ will launch on PlayStation, the publisher did announce Ubisoft+ Classics on PlayStation.

The “Classics” however doesn’t only include older titles exclusively but rather “a curated selection of popular games”. These include:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • For Honor
  • The Crew 2
  • Child of Light
  • Eagle Flight
  • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
  • Far Cry 3 Remaster
  • Far Cry 4
  • Legendary Fishing
  • Risk: Urban Assault
  • South Park: The Fractured but Whole
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Space Junkies
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew
  • Starlink: Battle for Atlas
  • STEEP
  • The Crew
  • The Division
  • Trackmania Turbo
  • Transference
  • Trials Fusion
  • Trials of the Blood Dragon Game
  • Trials Rising
  • Valiant Hearts: The Great War
  • Watch Dogs
  • Werewolves Within
  • ZOMBI.

This Ubisoft+ Classics offer will come bundled with PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium which was detailed by Sony today. This be available on:

  • 24th May – Asia
  • 13th June – North and South America
  • 2nd June – Japan
  • 23rd June – Europe.

It’s unclear whether Ubisoft+ Classics will be available in South Africa, but as Ubisoft+ is, we’re hopeful that South Africa isn’t being left out entirely of this offer.

We are curious to see how Ubisoft+ is made available on PlayStation when it does eventually launch and whether it will be bundled with the newly outlined PlayStation Plus tiers or a separate purchase.

Whichever form it takes though, PlayStation owners being able to make use of subscription services to get access to a library of games is a net good, even if they are from one publisher.
