Unisa clarifies who qualifies for supplementary exams

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has issued some extra information to properly identify which students qualify for supplementary exams.

This has, according to Unisa, been done to answer a matter brought up by the National Student Representative Council (NSRC).

“The Institution is currently conducting the May/June 2022 examination. As previously communicated by the Registrar, students were advised to follow the step by step guide which addresses protocols for admission to a supplementary examination. The following matter was raised by the NSRC,” Unisa writes.

That aforementioned step by step guide is likely the same one which we highlighted last week. This guide, released earlier in the year, should contain most if not all the info a student will need to prepare for exams.

In an answer to the NSRC, the Portfolio of Teaching, Learning, Community Engagement and Student Support at Unisa provides the following list which outlines admission to supplementary opportunity for 2021 students:

  • Only students that had admission to the January/February 2022 examination as a first opportunity, are considered for a 2nd supplementary opportunity in the May/June 2022 examination.
  • Students that had admission to the January/February 2022 examination as their 2nd opportunity, will not have admission to the May/June 2022 examination for an additional and 3rd opportunity.
  • FI students are identified for second opportunities only, not for a third opportunity.

A bit more information about supplementary exams can be found in this PDF released by the university back in 2019.

While not mentioned by Unisa we recommend that any student still not sure about their status in regards to extra exams and their passing or failing to contact their module co-ordinators as these topics vary by module.
