Dell’s Precision 7865 Tower features AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors

In the wake of the pandemic, employees forced to work from home have had to reassess their setups and hardware, prompting many to upgrade where needed. If your job involves resource hungry and heavy multi-application workloads, you more than likely had to invest in a new workstation.

This brings us to Dell’s latest offering in the workstation category – the Precision 7865 Tower.

As you can gauge by the headline, the American company is not playing games here when it comes to how well specced this workstation can be, with the addition of AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors making this one of the most powerful commercial workstations Dell has unveiled to date.

In terms of the intended audience for this device, Dell has highlighted it for use by engineers, architects, creators and designers who depend on mixed-use workflows.

To deliver the desired performance, the Precision 7865 Tower comes with up to 64 CPU cores, up to 56TB storage, optional Thunderbolt 3 and up to 1TB of DDR4 ECC memory with RMT Pro. Added to this is a choice of up to 32GB AMD Radeon PRO W6800 or 48GB NVIDIA RTX A6000 graphics.

For those concerned with real estate, the 7865 Tower’s chassis is also 14 percent smaller than the Precision 7820 Tower, standing 41.4cm tall and weighing 21.9kg with the heaviest components onboard.

Dell is also talking up the after sales elements of the new workstation, which is said to be highly serviceable and upgradable, should the need arise.

Servicing and upgrading are made simpler with convenient front and side access. A look inside reveals tool-less interiors and organized, color-coded components that make it more intuitive to upgrade memory, storage or graphics cards as power demands increase. Looking to the future, Dell engineers prioritized upgradability and scalability to not only meet the performance needs of today but also to grow and evolve alongside the pros who use them,” it explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.

If you are wanting to pick one of these up, or indeed find out how much it will cost to do so, at the time of writing, pricing and availability have not been shared by Dell.

That said, given that we were sent information on the Precision 7865 Tower, it should be heading to South Africa, but will likely command an impressive price.
